The UN's Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has released several reports highlighting the alarming state of biodiversity loss, with a 2019 report stating that one million species are at risk of extinction, many within decades. An endangered species is a plant or animal facing extinction if its population numbers do not increase. Currently, there are over 1,300 endangered or threatened species in the U.S. Endangered species cannot recover without the help of humans. You can help reduce the plastic footprint on campus or in the community by taking the steps to earn the NWF EcoLeaders Plastics Reduction Badge. You can help endangered plant and animal species recover by taking the steps to earn the NWF EcoLeaders Endangered Species Badge.
