Phase 1: PLAN

Planning is about strategy and making choices. Tell us about the choices you made for your project. Note: it is not the expectation that you would check every box in this area. Please check only those that apply.
1. Where is your project's biggest impact?
Campus, Community
2. What were the goals for your project?
Reducing the amount of unnecessary waste to landfills
3. What strategy did you use?
Community Building, Communications/Marketing, Education

Phase II: DO

1. Did you accomplish the goals you set for this project? Please explain.
Yes, we received many donations given to us from students, faculty and staff. Items such as camping gear, clothes, books, kitchenware, electronics, and other items that fall in between. Also with the immense amount of advertising with months in advance until the day of the event we were able to give away almost everything. Asking for help from other club organizations allowed us to have all the support we needed to successfully complete our event efficiently.
2. Choose your impact measurement from the drop down menu and provide details in the box provided (such as specific numbers or results).
Pounds of trash reduced
About 400 lbs of items were collected during the donation period.
3. When did you begin and complete your project?
September 15, 2016- April 26, 2017
4. What was challenging about your project and how did you respond?
The lack of members to help with the event. I spoke out to other club organizations at my college for volunteering opportunities and collaboration. As well as we needed time schedule from whoever was helping to establish pick up times to clear out boxes every other week. We did not want the items from the donations boxes to be overflowing. Also there were other clubs during the same time who also had out boxes for donations but for more specific items, which felt a bit competitive, and uncalled for.
5. Which groups were involved in this project? Students, faculty, staff or community groups?
Mainly club and organizations a part of Moraine Valley Community College, such as, Go Green Club, Asian Diversity Club, Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, as well as an outside source with Com Ed to promote people to go to the event. Com Ed had give-away's that and information on how to reduce energy waste in your household.
6. Was your project funded? If so, how?
Our project needed little to no supplies because everything used was recycled many times throughout the planning till day of event. So I was able to use money from the club I am apart of Go Green Club which is mainly funded by Moraine Valley Community College, and our awesome adviser, of course!
6. How did you communicate about this project and educate the broader campus and/or community?
With the help of my, Go Green! Club we were able to advertise vocally among our campus during school fests and random days of the week throughout the halls. Also advertised with flyers around bulletin boards. I also presented to my classes with permission from my professors and presented to our Inter-Club Council, as well as to other clubs directly.

Phase III: REVIEW

Part of being an EcoLeader is learning how to design, implement and evaluate projects. Use this space to tell us how you evaluated your project and what your plans are moving forward.
1. How have you evaluated your project?
Group reflection, Individual reflection
2. What did you do after your reviewed your project?
Revised goals, Communicated your project results through a blog or other media, Presented your project results at a conference or meeting, Added new team members with different expertise, Applied for awards, Celebrated

Phase IV: LESSONS LEARNED

1. What was the biggest or best thing you learned from your project?
There are many willing people who will donate and help with your goal as long as you ask. Another thing is to always ask for help when you need it, I hadn't this event would have never been possible.
2. What advice would you give to others working on a similar project?
Start collecting as soon as possible with donation and acquire as many helping hands. Literally make a timeline and prepare for anything and everything. You have to think of the smallest details to enhance and have the best results.
3. Based on your response above, what are your future plans for this project? And are there resources (people, financial, etc.) available to sustain it?
Emphasize that everything is "free" when donated at the event. For some reason a lot of people who came in thought you had to pay or needed an item to give in order to take, so definitely be as clear as you can be. The resource to sustain this project/event the most would be from Go Green Club and then incorporating other clubs to it depending on how much help they would need in the future.
