Description:
The LSUA BioControl Discovery Lab discovers, isolates, and screens native fungi from Louisiana's bayous, wetlands, and agricultural soils to find natural alternatives to chemical fungicides. Louisiana's unique ecosystems are an underexplored reservoir of fungal biodiversity, organisms adapted to our heat, humidity, and fluctuating moisture may be nature's own solution to plant disease control. Working alongside undergraduate students at Louisiana State University of Alexandria, we combine classical mycology with modern molecular techniques (DNA extraction, Genomics, and microscopy) to document regional biodiversity and develop sustainable crop protection strategies.
