Eco-Mission
My Eco-Mission:
I would say my eco-mission cuts across a few fields. I am very passionate about wildlife and environmental education. I have always enjoyed talking about wildlife and educating other people about wildlife and the environment. I am also passionate about getting inner city people involved with outdoor activities. I feel that nature should be available to everyone, not just those that were born and raised in it. I grew up in Chicago, IL and I, myself was not exposed to a lot of outdoor activities outside of hiking until I went to Wisconsin for school for sometime.
My Fun Side
My favorite planet friendly activity is:
Having a meal without meat or with meat that was ethically harvested.
One of my eco-guilty pleasures is:
Eating beef and having a long hot shower here and there.
If I were an animal, I would be:
My favorite wild place is:
My favorite way to get outdoors is:
Hiking. I always feel like I see more of the beauty of nature when I go on hikes. My favorite thing to do on hikes are to look at where moss grows and at the different fungi that grows after it rains.
On a More Serious Note
I am driven to make a difference in the world because:
Earth is my home. I can't think of a simpler way to put it. I care about my home and the balance that makes it a healthy and a beautiful place to live in.
The greatest skill I bring to a team is:
Interpersonal skills. I love meeting new people and getting to know them and learning their story. I have had to push myself out of my comfort zone many times when it comes to different social structures and I feel like that makes me equip to relay information and speak to different groups of people.
My proudest moment working on community projects was:
When I started my internship with Audubon Great Lakes any people from different organizations and individuals from the community came together to plant 4,000 plant plugs in an up and coming restored natural area in the East side of Chicago. It was a shining moment to see all these people coming together to bring life into a former dump site surrounded by industry.
If I could change one thing about my community it would be:
that having an eco-conscious mentality isn't bad. i have been surrounded by a community where industry reigns and it can be difficult to make people aware that it is harming the environment.
