Project Goal Summary
At the May Wlidlife Rehabilitation Center we take in many injured animals from around the area. Most of the animals that we recieve have human caused injuries and we feel it is our responsibilty to give back to these animals what others have taken away. The May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is located on Lees McRae College's campus in Banner Elk, NC. The centers goals is to help as many animals as they can, we recives upwards to 1,200 animals a year. As our program developes and gets bigger we can take in more and more animals each year. With a great vet on staff the animals have the medical they need to get better. The center is all donation based, and every donation recived goes towards the care for our animals (food, cages, towels, suppies, new facilities, etc.). Most of the donations come from our education programs. Some of the animals that come into the center sustain injuries that will not allow them to be released back to the wild, these animals can become wildlife ambassadors for educational purposes. The students at the center work one on one with the animals and plan and create many educational programs for local schools, churches and other scheduled events. During these events the comunity can learn the importance of keeping our environment healthy for the animals we share it with and gain an apreacitation for the local wildlife.
