I think telling people about the issue confronting the environement is ineffective. I'd like to devote my skills and expertise to using design to show people how it is easy to protect the environment. A similar thing was first done by humans thousands of years ago when ancient cities installed clean running water from the mountains and sewer systems. OK, that is also engineering but, in modern society, we make a lot of decisions based on what we see, hear, and want as consumers. I want to leverage that power but toward changing how people do things. They will become eco friendly, and not even know it!
