Howdy from North KY!

Howdy y'all! My name is Daniel Schmidt (but most people just call me Dan). I'm a student at Thomas More University majoring in biology with a minor in marine biology and a concentration in ecological studies. That sounds super fancy, but it just means I like studying the ocean and the way the things that live in it interact with each other and with their environment. My particular interests are in the migratory patterns of humpback whales, but I'm also just jazzed about conservation in general. I'm currently working alongside a professor on a grant proposal for husbandry of eastern hellbenders. I'm a firm believer in that the first step of conservation must be educating the public, not on how, but on why we must do what we do.

In my free time, I love music! I love playing music, I love writing music (basically, if it involves music, I'm jazzed about it). I started playing piano when I was 7, and picked up a guitar when I was in high school.

Welcome @Daniel Schmidt ! We're glad to have you in the community. Thanks so much for sharing a bit about yourself. I'd love to learn more about your hellbender work! Also curious if you've ever combined your interests in music and conservation 🙂
