NWF EcoLeaders community and SXSW Eco are teaming up to help send students to SXSW Eco October 6-8 in Austin, TX for free and have the opportunity to learn explore, engage and co-create solutions for a sustainable world with some of the top environmental and sustainability organizations, businesses and thought leaders in the field. The school that enrolls the most students in NWF's new EcoLeaders community for student environmental leaders by 5 PM central on Sept 15 will win 5 free SXSWEco badges (reg student rate is $195) to distribute to their group!

Now in it’s fourth year, SXSW Eco examines the critical challenges of our times through a kaleidoscopic lens of design innovation, policy tipping points, technological breakthroughs, conservation practice, entrepreneurial spirit and a culture of creativity to transform inspiration into action.

Here's what you need to do to win:

Step 1 - Join the EcoLeaders community

Step 2 - In the "Ask me About" section of your profile, include the tag SXSWEco2014

Step 3 - Sign your school up to win the prize by commenting in this forum with the name of your school if its not already listed (feel free to add trash talk if you think that will help :-) ).  Anyone can sign up your school and the person who signs up will be the main point of contact for distributing the passes to the winning school.

Step 4 - Spread the word and recruit more people from your school to join EcoLeaders for the win!

As a bonus: if the winning school is located more than an hour from Austin and has at least 20 new EcoLeaders registered NWF will offer $500 in travel scholarships to help students attend. Expenses up to $500 will be reimbursed based upon receipts for actual expenses incurred and can include, transportation, food or lodging costs as need up to $500 total per school.

In the event of a tie, the school with most completed profiles will be the winner.

Good luck and comment here to sign your school up to win!

Signing up Trinity University because this would be a great opportunity for our student eco-leaders. SXSW Eco is an awesome event!
I would like to sign up Texas State University- San Marcos! We need to step up our efforts towards providing a more environmentally friendly campus, and this would be a great step to take to achieve that goal!
Please add NORTH LAKE COLLEGE to the sign up list!

The college just shared this info on their social media pages, so hopefully more students get involved.  G.R.E.E.N. Club and Phi Theta Kappa will for sure, maybe others. Sustainability is one of our core values at North Lake: www.bit.ly/NLCgreen.

Only a few days left to win the prize - For those of you recruiting students for this promotion - a couple of good ways to go about it are to check and see what groups or clubs related to environment or sustainability are meeting this week that you could go to and ask people to sign up.  You can also check to see if they can share via email and social media (but  alot of times with things like this you really need to make a more personal ask).

Also - check with faculty teaching enviro science or related courses.  Sometimes they will let you make a brief announcement to the class. Also some faculty are using the Ecoleaders site to encourage their students to share EcoMissions and projects by tagging their profiles with the class name.  They can also add SXSWEco2014 to the tag to put your school over the top!
I am going to nominate Saint Edward's University because we are an incredibly sustainable institution, however, there is always room for improvement.
Let's go St. Edward's!! We have a variety of sustainability practices, individuals, and student organizations on campus involved in the protection and preservation of our Earth!!!
I know it's already been nominated, but I would like to cast my vote for St. Edward's University! Although St. Ed's is in Austin, one of the greener cities in the nation, St. Ed's has a diverse student body with students from all over the country. Giving these students an opportunity to attend SXSWEco would not only return what's learned back to campus and around the city, but also around the country! (and even the world!)

With only a few hours to go St Edwards is coming on strong!  Can anyone overtake them in the homestretch?!?
Palo Alto College's Club Earth would like to enter a chance to win 5 badges to SXSWEco event. We are working hard to encourage the faculty, staff and students to contribute to sustainable lifestyles. Before Club Earth, Palo Alto College was already on its way to recycling about 210,000 pounds of paper, cardboard, metal and glass since January 2009. Last year's SXSWEco was an event a few members of our club (including myself) were able to attend. We found it to be so informing, exciting and encouraging. It would be such a pleasure to take a few more club members back to Austin in honor of this event.
Thank you.

A big congratulations to St. Edward's University in Austin, TX for rallying to win 5 free badges to SXSWEco.  For those who still want to go but didn't win - you can still apply for a free badge Here:

SXSWEco is strongly supportive of making the conference accessible to college students. All you need to do is write a couple of brief paragraphs about your interestor acomplishments in one of the conference theme areas and if you put in a good effort - you've got a great shot at getting a free badge.  So go for it! And we hope to see you there!
