To educate the students of Leuzinger Highschool about fun and unique ways to implement upcycling
3. What strategy did you use?
Advocacy, Community Building, Education
4. Did you accomplish the goals you set for this project? Please explain.
Yes! I feek that the goals of the project were reached as we were able to impliment two fully upcycled garden beds into the schools very own garden, we also had many flyers spread all across campus that students were able to engage with.
5. Choose your impact measure type.
Plants planted
What were the measurable outcomes of your project?
we were able to add 12 new plants into our schools garden.
6. When did you begin and complete your project?
We started our project december 2nd of 2024 and finished it march 8th of 2025
7. What was challenging about your project and how did you respond?
A challenging aspect was that not every skate shop would respond of simply the lack of comunication from outside groups that slowed us down, but we remianded persistante and were never stoo stagment on one group, quickly moving on if needed.
8. Which groups were involved in this project? Students, faculty, staff or community groups?
The ECA (Environmental Career academy) at leuzinger is the group who runs the on campus garden that we were wanting to place our up-cycled skate board boxes in. We also worked with local skate shops from the greater Los Angeles area to provide us with used and worn out skateboars, our local community of skaters helped by gifting us thier skateboards. Asb was also invloved by helping us place flyers to promote up cycling around campus.
9. Was your project funded? If so, how?
No our project was not funded, were soley used materials that were free!
10. How did you communicate about this project and educate the broader campus and/or community?
as stated before we created flyers that had QR codes that when scaned would link students to videos on how to upcycle. We also hope that with the integration of the garden boxes that more people are inspired to upcycle in another fun way.
11. How have you evaluated your project?
Group reflection
12. What did you do after your reviewed your project?
Celebrated
13. What was the biggest or best thing you learned from your project?
The best thing I learned was that, in order to get that what you want, you should be persistant; things wont just be handed to you. You mustbe willing to put in the drive to see the results that you desire.
14. What advice would you give to others working on a similar project?
I would recomend to reach out to as many sources for materials as possible, relying soley on one person of group offers risks that can hinder the timelyness of the project or even ruin prexisting ideas for improvement.
15. Based on your response above, what are your future plans for this project? And are there resources (people, financial, etc.) available to sustain it?
We plan to continue support for the garden bed boxes by tending to the plants that were put in there regularly, aswell as maybe spreading the flyers to city hall or even the local library to reach a wider section of people that can learn more about upcycling.
