My Eco-Mission:
I have recently volunteered to work with two environmental missions; one we could call "inside" and one "outside." The inside mission is working as a virtual professional for the Department of Energy on various document editing projects. My mission with the Department of Energy is to learn more about the inner workings, gain editing experience and make connections.
The "outside" mission is a lobbying group. I am an Emerging Leader with Citizens' Climate Lobby for their Memphis branch. We are a non-partisan group that works to decrease carbon emissions by charging a fee at the source and distributing money earned back to U.S. citizens. We are working to get the Carbon Fee and Dividend idea through to Congress. You can check out the Citizens' Climate Lobby by going to their website and joining for free.
I am also exploring recycling options on the campus of the community college where I teach. I have contacted the person in charge of recycling at the University of Memphis and will also contact the central recycling center in my city.

My Fun Side
My favorite planet friendly activity is:
My favorite planet friendly activity is eating a vegan diet. The recipes never run out! I have many vegan cookbooks but also collect recipes from magazines and websites. What I find fun is trying a new recipe every time and never eating the same thing twice!
One of my eco-guilty pleasures is:
floating in any body of water. Smelling the flowers along my walking path.
If I were an animal, I would be:
My favorite wild place is:
the trees in my neighborhood that house hawks, owls, bats and all sorts of birds, squirrels and chipmunks.
My favorite way to get outdoors is:
a brisk walk and/or swimming.
On a More Serious Note
I am driven to make a difference in the world because:
This is the only planet we have. Humans are so quickly running in the opposite direction of what we need to do to save ourselves, our animals, our food sources and our planet. I want to at least be running in the right direction!
The greatest skill I bring to a team is:
Writing and editing skills. I teach composition and research writing at the college level. I am trained in analyzing text to transform it into: teaching material, speeches, essays, presentations, etc.
My proudest moment working on community projects was:
my first Citizens' Climate Lobby International Call meeting. It will happen this Saturday and I will give you an update soon!
If I could change one thing about my community it would be:
If I could change one thing about my community it would be teaching young and old about healthy eating through a plant-based diet and how this helps not only their bodies, but their environment.
