My Eco-Mission
I have become very interested in Sustainability and making sustainable lifes choices as I have entered into the environmental science major. I switched from a Biology major to a Sustainability major as I have learned more about Conservation and Ecology. Learning more about the environments, and how much we truly do affect our surroundings, I think it is so important for us, and sustainability advocates, to share our knowledge with the world around us. Biodiversity is around us whether we are sitting at the beach or sitting in a park. I feel as society's knowledge increases and is understood that sustainability truly needs to be a way of life, we can collectively walk towards a better future.
I am from a beach town, so conservation and learning about marine life is very close to my heart. I also am trying to learn how to help create a more sustainable living situation for my university. I transfered from a school with composting, recycling, edible landscaping, and other amazing features to a school that is highly involved with the asthetics of the school, not so much a sustainable outlook. I would love to learn about what I can do as a student to increase learning for other students and how I physically could change the school's systems to become more sustainable. A huge thing for me is trying to change the cafeteria's trash. I would love to see composting, less tray use, and just an all around better system. They are trying to use fresher foods, but I believe we could have a garden my last school had.
Any advise or intellect looking into this would be so helpful and very much appreciated! There is a lot of space on the campus for gardens and improved systems, but I'm struggling how to present this in a way the school would really back it. Any other college students struggling with this? Let's share ideas!
