Job Title: Intern, LandScale
Location: Washington, DC or home-based within the US
Start Date: Immediate 10 weeks duration with the possibility to extend
Reports to: LandScale Senior Manager
A global leader in helping to tackle the world’s most intractable environmental challenges, Verra seeks an Intern to support research and the LandScale Product Development workstream. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, research experience, and interest in sustainability. Skills in data (including spatial data) search and review preferred.

Verra currently manages a number of global standards frameworks designed to drive finance towards activities that mitigate climate change and promote sustainable development, including the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program and its Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ framework (JNR), the Verra California Offset Project Registry (OPR), and the Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standards. Verra is also developing new standards frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta) to enable project developers to demonstrate the sustainable development benefits of their projects, and the standards in LandScale to promote and measure sustainability outcomes across landscapes. Finally, Verra is one of the implementing partners of the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT), which helps countries assess the impacts of their climate actions and supports greater transparency, effectiveness, trust and ambition in climate policies worldwide.
Job Responsibilities
The Intern will be a member of an exciting, global team of sustainability professionals from Verra and Rainforest Alliance. The intern will receive mentoring and learning opportunities in landscape sustainability. The intern will contribute to the development of LandScale through research and generating recommendations in specific topics. In particular, the Intern will:
● Provide research support, particularly related to:
○ Identification of relevant global and regional data to provide potential information sources across the four pillars of our assessment framework: ecosystems, human wellbeing, governance, and production.
○ Primary data collection methodologies that could be leveraged for those indicators that are not available through secondary data.
○ Key terms and definitions of the LandScale Assessment Framework and Guidelines.
● Provide ongoing support related to:
○ The second public consultation release of Version 0.2, including preparing feedback materials with key questions and setting up the consultation channels through different means, including but not limited to Collaborase.
○ Reviewing and providing feedback to the Version 0.2 products that will be released for consultation to ensure consistency and alignment.
○ Managing product development-related questions from the new LandScale Innovator pilots.
● Provide other support to the LandScale team as needed.
Required Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who have research experience--that are able to quickly grasp the need and efficiently find quality information, excel in written and verbal communication and have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of commodity supply chain sustainability and/or impact investment. You should have:
● A Bachelor’s degree or graduating this year;
● Relevant academic or work experience in landscape scale assessment, sustainability, commodity supply chains;
● Proficiency in MS Office and Google Drive;
● Strong writing, editing and communication skills; and,
● Positive, professional approach to collaboration
● Current enrollment in (or recent graduate of) a relevant Master’s degree, or 1-2 years relevant work experience preferred;
● Fluency in Spanish, French, Portuguese or Bahasa Indonesia would be an asset but is not required.
