Project Goal Summary
The campaign that we at the FAMU Student Community Garden (FSCG) are leading, is the need to address solutions to the food justice issue in Tallahassee, where it is a primarily minority, HBCU student, and low-income community in the city. We are seeking to build sustainable garden solutions.

The USDA ξin 2012 determined that the Southwest side of Tallahassee as a "food desert." So myself, and a few student groups founded FSCG in March of 2014. Since then, our student members, leaders and community volunteers have worked together to grow organic, free food for our all, students and low-income families alike. To date, we have donated over 270 lbs of produce in total, to groups including the Sowing Seeds Sowing Faith Ministry Food Bank, and events like Salads for Southside, and the Ashe Indie Festival 2016. Our goal isξto continueξincreasingξour non profit work, positively impactingξin the community, educating and mentoring more K-12 youth,ξand revitalizingξour garden. We plan on planting for this fall semester, building more grow boxes, donating more food, andξexpanding our garden from a 40x40 to a 40x60 plot.ξ
ξ
We will measure our success by implementing at least three planting meetings, three harvest meetings, and an on-campus educational event/workshopξthis semester. In between events, we will schedule days to weed and water, as well as beautify our garden to give students and youthξopportunities to earn community service hours and connect with the environment. We will document the growth pr
